Books I’m Keeping on My Running Shelf: To the Gorge

This one feels closer to home. To the Gorge is set around a 460-mile run on Oregon’s Pacific Crest Trail, so it has that Pacific Northwest pull I immediately understand from Seattle: wet trails, big trees, long miles, and the feeling that running can become a way to carry what is heavy.

Emily Halnon writes about grief, her mother, and the record-setting run she took on after losing her. That is what makes this book stand out to me. It is not just about distance. It is about memory, love, and how the body can keep moving when the heart is trying to make sense of loss.

This feels like the right next book for the series because it is personal, reflective, and rooted in resilience.
